Legally Driving With Over 12 Points

People who receive 12 points within a 3 year period are usually banned from driving for 6 months as 12 points are the legal maximum amount. The 12 points allow for quite a fair number of minors in several peoples opinions and also in the eyes of the law, newly qualified drivers get less lineance with only being allowed to get 6 points in their first 3 years of driving. Would you worry if you where on the road with people who had totalled up 12 points or more? As they should be banned and with good reason to be.

Its true, you may be shocked to find out that if you are banned for having over 12 points in three years this ban can be provoked and you can be given a second chance so to speak, motorists who can prove that the loss of their license would cause them severe incovenience then they can be “forgiven”. The most prolific offender still on the road has a total of 36 points, yet is still giving excuses to be legally allowed to drive! Men are also far more likely to be the one providing the excuses when it comes to wanting to drive after they where meant to be banned.

People are in general quite outraged at this and understandably people acquire points for good reason, the guidelines are set at 12 due to the amount of minors you can get before you get banned from the road or supposedly before you should get banned. If people are likely to get 4 minors or over the chance is they are going to reoffend which is a danger to motorists around them. Many are calling for a much tighter practice to ensure that when these motorists are back on the road they aren’t a danger to others, possibly a driver retraining cause? Or even the resit of their tests completely. Whatever happens it needs to be more than a slap on the risk, dangerous drivers can kill people.
