I’m under 25, can I hire a car at Heathrow Airport? The short answer is yes, but you must meet particular requirements in order to do so, here are the few things you should know about hiring a car at Heathrow Airport when you’re considered a young driver.

If you are 21-22 its very different to if you are 20, you only need one year driving experience in order to hire a car however you will also be subject to an additional daily fee which we will always try to keep at an absolute minimum.

Car Rental Heathrow At 23 & 24 Year Old

If you are between 23-24 we have a great announcement to make, we can do this with a significantly smaller additional fee! This is available at several UK locations including Heathrow, you must however have 1 years driving experience also.

What is the minimum age to rent a car at Heathrow

Currently the minimum age in the UK to rent a car is 21, this obviously extends to the car rental providers at Heathrow Airport, young drivers fee s do apply, to keep these fees as low as possible we would always recommend getting in touch with the team.

What the the typical fee for been a young driver

This can vary from from supplier to supplier, the lowest one can obtain is £25 extra per day, this is for a 23/24 year old, anyone who is 21/22 can expect to face a surcharge of £40 per day, which is best value from an overall perspective depends on who is offering the best value on the base rental price

How long Do I need to have held my license for

Driver who are under 25 must have held their license for a minimum of 2 years, if it is a UK license the license needs to be free of points and convictions, if you have points and you are under 25 it is certainly worth trying us as from time to time our insurance underwriters will allow the rental to proceed.

For those that are new license holders you will need to be 25 or over.

Do I need to use a credit card for the deposit if I am under 25

No the same rule applies to drivers who are 25 or over either a credit or debit card will cover the required holding deposit.

It is worth adding not all suppliers operate in this way so it is always worth sounding out our team prior to making a booking

Do I need to leave a deposit when renting a car as a young driver

For drivers aged 21-24 at Heathrow Airport we offers the same no deposit car hire solution, our reduced excess scheme means there is no holding deposit required on arrival.

Is there additional ID required as a young driver

Nothing in additional to a more mature drivers applies when renting a car, depending on your status, namely whether an inbound traveler or a UK resident the same requirements will apply, either a proof of address or a passport and return flight details.

Proof of ID can sometimes be a little bit of a minefield people always prefer to talk through the requirements prior to reserving a vehicle.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
