Debit cards seem to suit our life styles better the days, however when it comes to travelling and especially hiring a car most suppliers will only accept credit cards as a form of payment. Some of us do not like using credit cards because the debt can easily build up, so the more cautious option is to use a visa debit card.

We at Indigo realise this, and we worked hard talking to and visiting suppliers in Salzburg in the hope that we would be able to offer of car hire Salzburg with a debit card and yes, we did it. We did this to our customers more flexible payment options to your needs.

This offering comes with requirements that the payment card must meet, however don’t worry if your card doesn’t fit these requirements as we may still be able to help.

One of the requirements is that the card must be in the name of the main driver. As for the other restrictions, they may change due to the location or supplier you hire from. Some suppliers that accept payment via debit card will require you to take out additional insurance which is in case the vehicle is damaged while in your possession, this means you will have a zero excess which isn’t a bad thing as you won’t be liable for the damage or have to pay out in the unlikely event of an accident.

Excellent friendly service from everyone that we have spoken to or emailed - even on a Sunday.

Do I need to pass a credit check if using my debit card to hire?

If renting a car in the UK and you are a UK resident most of the large multinational suppliers will carry out an electronic address check to ensure you have strong enough links to the address provided. However most of the suppliers with the exception of 1 or 2, still carry out the same checks so not unique to when you need to hire via a debit card. Key indicator are if you are named on the Electoral Register and named on the council tax bill.

When renting a car overseas as an inbound client our suppliers do not carry out any checks.

Do I need to leave a deposit if hiring with a debit card?

Most suppliers do require a security deposit when renting a car, in the UK we have a range of options. The best value suppliers would request a £200.00 – £300.00 deposit. However we do have selected locations where our supplier does not require any deposit, so a full zero deposit.

In Europe we have options where you can just leave a fuel deposit of 110 EUR, and there is no mandatory requirement to take the Super Cover as this can be the case with some of the smaller budget suppliers.
